On the past weekend, July 4–5th, 2026, the city of Gorakhpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, hosted the 55th International Umpire Course (IUC), bringing together more than 50 participants from across India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
Hosted by the All-India International Taekwon-Do Association (AIITA) and conducted by GMAbelardo Benzaquen, Chair of the ITF Umpire Committee. Participants received comprehensive training on the latest ITF rules and regulations, ensuring that umpires, athletes, coaches, and officials are fully prepared for the World Cup 2026 in Spain as well as the next regional and international events.
The event was honored by the presence of special guests: GM Paul Weiler (ITF President), GM Najmi Bin Abdullah (Asia Development Team member from Malaysia), Honorable Prof. Poonam Tondon (Vice-Chancellor of Deen Dayal Upadhaya University Gorakhpur), Prof. Vijay Chahal (AIITA President), and Sbn Santosh Kumar Yadav, Dr. (AIITA Secretary General) whose attendance further highlighted the importance of this international educational event.
The IUC provided an excellent opportunity for education, discussion, and professional development, with attendees reviewing rules updates, competition procedures, officiating standards, and best practices that will be implemented at future international events.
The ITF and its Umpire Committee look forward to seeing the knowledge gained this weekend contribute to the continued growth and excellence of ITF Taekwon-Do officiating throughout all India, Southeast Asian countries, and beyond.
