During the past 6th and 7th of March, the first online QIUC took place, dictated entirely in Spanish by the ITF Umpire Committee.
The two days were developed in a very dynamic way and the students were offered the full ITF Umpiring program in all its specialties (Patterns, Sparring, Pre-Arranged, Power Break and Special Techniques), with the presence of 130 participants from 18 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, United States, Spain, Switzerland, France, and Italy.
The course, which was officially opened by ITF President GM Paul Weiler, is an International Umpire Qualifier for ITF events for the next two years (QIUC) and also qualifies to apply for the class “A” Umpire certificate (4th Dan and above) and the certificate of class “B” Umpire (2nd degree and higher) to all those who passed the final exam, who will also receive a participation diploma.
The QIUC was in charge of Master Abelardo Benzaquén (Director of the ITF Umpires Committee), with the participation of Grand Master Rubén Suárez; Master Kurt Ottesen and the active collaboration of Master Gordon Wallace, SN Saija Aalto and SN Petros Mikaelian (members of the ITF Umpire Committee), and SN Gustavo Livon, Chairman of the ITF Development and Communication Committee. Special participation also included the Director of the ITF Technical Committee, GM Héctor Marano.
We thank all the participants who actively accompanied us during the two days and enriched the course with questions about all the topics discussed.
Many thanks to GM Paul Weiler, ITF President and his Board of Directors for supporting and making this event possible.
Sincerely, for and on behalf of the ITF Umpires Committee,
