On May 2nd, the ITF Chinese Taipei Association successfully hosted its first interclub tournament of the year in Taiwan, bringing together 54 students from clubs across Taipei and New Taipei.
The event featured both individual patterns and sparring disciplines, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to apply their skills in a competitive setting. It was especially encouraging to witness many students competing for the first time, demonstrating courage, determination, and true martial arts spirit. Senior color belts and junior black belt members set a strong example through their technical ability, composure, and leadership throughout the event.
This tournament was organized by instructors Carlos Machado and Yu-Shih Lin from Hwa Rang Martial Arts Center, with the following key objectives:
- To elevate the overall level of participating students
- To provide meaningful and practical competition experience
- To help students develop the ability to manage pressure and anxiety
- To strengthen interaction and connection among different clubs
The umpire team was composed of dedicated senior black belt members and passionate students, who worked diligently to ensure fairness, safety, and high standards across all matches.
In preparation for the tournament, extensive planning had been conducted since the previous year. Prior to the event, the president of our association, Mr. Howard Hu convened a meeting alongside the chairman, Teck Sing Lim, and the instructor team to evaluate strengths and areas for improvement. This initiative contributed to stronger alignment within the organization and reinforced a shared vision for development.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all instructors, assistants, parents, and students for their continued support. Special thanks go to Chairman Teck Sing Lim for his presence and active participation as part of the umpire team.
This tournament marks a promising step forward for future events within the organization and for the continued growth of the ITF Taekwon-Do community in Taiwan and across Asia. Looking ahead, upcoming exchange training sessions and interclub activities will further prepare our students for the coming November Open.
Together, we continue to grow and strengthen our community in the region through Taekwon-Do.
