An agreement signed during the ITF World Cup 2026 in Benidorm marks an important milestone in the process of unifying Scotland’s two Taekwon-Do associations.
During the ITF World Cup 2026 in Benidorm, Spain, a significant milestone was reached in the ongoing merger process between Scotland’s two Taekwon-Do associations. After two years of dialogue, consultation and careful consideration of both parties’ perspectives, an agreement was signed, establishing a framework for the next steps towards unification.
The merger aims to bring the two associations together under a common structure, strengthening unity and cooperation within Scottish ITF Taekwon-Do and enabling practitioners from both organisations to work towards shared goals. The agreement sets out the commitments and actions that both parties will undertake as they continue working towards a common future. A key element is the agreement to form a unified Scottish team, bringing together members of both associations ahead of the World Championships 2027 in Paraguay.
This agreement represents an important expression of mutual commitment and a willingness to open a new chapter. By acknowledging the past and learning from previous experiences, both parties have demonstrated their determination to move forward together, building a stronger and more united future for Taekwon-Do in Scotland.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Ethan Donnelly, Treasurer of the National Association of Scotland (authorised by its President Sbn Adam Patterson) and Master Mark Hutton of the Allied Association of Scotland (authorised by its President Master Brian McGowan, President). Master Gustavo Livon, Chair of the ITF Merger Committee, witnessed the signing.
The ITF extends their sincere gratitude to both parties for their goodwill, openness, and commitment to this process. During the final days leading up to the signing, the continued support of Master Philip Lear (ITF Vice President) as well as GM Paul Weiler (ITF President) and GM Clint Norman (ITF Senior Vice President) were invaluable. Special thanks for drafting the agreement go to Sbn Fernando Arrua.
This milestone is a result of continued efforts of the ITF Merger Committee and all its members, whose dedication and sustained work have layed the ground bringing the process to this important stage. In many meetings, calls, and messages, since the first meeting of the Merger Committee with both Scottish associations in April 2024 in Lublin, Poland, its members have worked actively to facilitate dialogue, build understanding, and support both parties in finding a constructive way forward.
The signing of this agreement marks an encouraging beginning and an important foundation for the work that lies ahead. While further steps remain before the merger can be completed, the commitment demonstrated in Benidorm offers a positive example of how cooperation, mutual respect and perseverance can help overcome differences.
The ITF hopes that this milestone will inspire and encourage other associations undertaking similar merger processes, strengthening unity and cooperation throughout the global Taekwon-Do community.
