The 193rd International Instructor Course (IIC) was successfully held at the University of Limerick, Ireland, from 26–28 June 2026, hosted by the Irish Taekwon-Do Association (ITA).
The event attracted 195 participants from 16 countries, who gathered for three days of intensive technical training under the expert tuition of ITF Technical Committee members GM Lan, GM Jedut, and Master Dionisi.
Throughout the weekend, the Technical Committee delivered comprehensive instruction on all 24 ITF patterns, examining each pattern in detail. Participants also enjoyed fascinating insights into the life of General Choi Hong Hi, the creation of each pattern, and the historical events and figures that inspired them. In addition to pattern training, the course included practical sessions covering three-step, two-step and one-step sparring, self-defence, free sparring, pre-arranged sparring, and a range of physical development exercises designed to enhance performance.
The course was conducted in a warm, friendly, and open atmosphere, with participants encouraged to ask questions and seek clarification on any aspect of the patterns or other ITF Taekwon-Do topics. This interactive approach created an excellent learning environment and was greatly appreciated by all in attendance.
The outstanding facilities at the University of Limerick allowed training to take place across three halls, enabling the Technical Committee to divide participants according to black belt grade. This ensured that instruction could be tailored to the specific requirements of each level, allowing for more detailed and focused tuition throughout the weekend.
At the opening of the course, the Irish Taekwon-Do Association proudly recognised the recent promotion of GM Kenneth Wheatley by presenting him with a special commemorative award in honour of his achievement and lifelong dedication to ITF Taekwon-Do.
The weekend also saw the promotion of Master John Ng, to 7th Degree Master, under the grading panel of GM Lan and GM Wheatley, the promotion was warmly applauded by all participants.
The IIC was officially opened by ITF Vice President Master Philip Lear, who welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of continuing technical education within the ITF.
At the conclusion of the course, the Irish Taekwon-Do Association presented commemorative gifts to the members of the ITF Technical Committee in appreciation of their outstanding instruction and commitment throughout the weekend. Master Philip Lear also received a commemorative gift on behalf of the University of Limerick in recognition of his support and attendance.
Away from the training hall, participants enjoyed opportunities to socialise during the Saturday evening BBQ, while many also took the opportunity to explore some of Ireland’s most famous attractions, including the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, making the weekend an enjoyable cultural experience as well as an exceptional technical event.
The Irish Taekwon-Do Association would like to extend its sincere thanks to all participants for making the journey to Ireland, to the organising committee and ITA Board for their hard work, hospitality, and professionalism, to the staff of the University of Limerick for providing first-class facilities, and especially to the ITF Technical Committee for delivering an enjoyable, educational, and inspiring International Instructor Course. The 193rd IIC once again demonstrated the spirit of friendship, continuous learning, and technical excellence that lies at the heart of ITF Taekwon-Do.
