ITF Webinar: Nutrition for competition

Mar 28 All day

Proper hydration is one of the most important — and often overlooked — factors in combat sports performance. In Taekwon-Do, where athletes must balance high-intensity competition with strict weight categories, managing hydration correctly can significantly impact both performance and health.

In this special ITF Webinar session “Taekwon-Do for Everyone”, the ITF Medical and Anti-Doping Committee organized an external speaker: Sean Fitzgerald, Certified Nutritionist and Personal Trainer from Adaptive Health, will explore the critical role hydration plays in training, competition performance, recovery, and safe weight management for Taekwondo athletes.

Drawing on his extensive background in Taekwon-Do and his current experience as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, Sean brings both practical athlete insight and professional expertise in combat sports nutrition. Through his work with European and World medalist athletes, as well as professional MMA fighters, BJJ competitors, and boxers, he has helped athletes develop smarter strategies to fuel performance while maintaining long-term health.

During this talk, participants will learn:

  • Why hydration is essential for optimal performance in Taekwon-Do competition
  • How dehydration affects strength, endurance, and cognitive performance
  • Practical hydration strategies before, during, and after competition
  • Safer approaches to managing hydration during weight cuts
  • How combat sport athletes can stay healthy while performing at their best

This session is ideal for Taekwon-Do athletes and coaches who want to better understand how nutrition and hydration can support both competitive success and long-term athlete wellbeing.
