Guédiawaye, Senegal – September 28, 2025 marked a historic date for ITF Taekwon-Do in West Africa with the successful celebration of the 1st Edition of the ITF International Open in Senegal.
Organized by the Senegalese ITF Taekwon-Do Association, the event took place at the iconic Amadou Barry Stadium in Guédiawaye, bringing together an impressive number of more than 265 participants.
The tournament not only served as a platform for local talent, but also featured outstanding international participation thanks to the presence of competitors from Mali. The athletes ranged in age from 4 to 50, demonstrating the inclusiveness and broad generational reach of the discipline in the region.
During the day, attendees and competitors enjoyed various categories of competition, including individual and team combat (sparring), forms (tul), and the always exciting power and skill breaking tests.


According to the organizing association, the event took place in an exemplary atmosphere, characterized by respect, discipline, and the true spirit of Taekwon-Do. This first International Open sets a fundamental precedent for the growth and consolidation of ITF Taekwon-Do in Senegal and its neighbouring countries, heralding a bright future for the martial art on the African continent.
