On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 1st to 3rd 2022, in Sasso Hotel, Mar del Plata, Argentina Republic, took place the 35th Qualifying International Umpire Course (QIUC #35). It was conducted by Master Abelardo Benzaquén Chairman of the ITF Umpire Committee, and Grand Master Rubén Suárez, Member.
The course was hosted and organized in a very professional way by Grand Master Omar Merodio, member of FETRA ITF´s Board of Directors.
With the active participation of three countries (Argentina, Paraguay and Peru), 65 attendants (11 Masters 7th and 8th degree), and 5 Grand Masters (Jorge Condomí, Armando Villegas, Carlos Lorefice, Azucena Zorzón and the host Omar Merodio).
During this QIUC were presented several important news: on the first day, by the very first time in the history of the IUCs was a space of 4 hours dedicated exclusively to Jury Presidents (and aspirants to be), where all participants had the chance of learn, understand and train by several hours with the SET (electronic system used by the ITF in official international competitions). Also were presented, explained and analyzed the new ITF Competitions Rules recently approved by the ITF Board of Directors. Saturday and Sunday were destinated to all participants, who had the opportunity of receive a detailed presentation and explanation of the main changes of the rules and apply them in a practical training done in “tournament mode”. It is worth mentioning the important number of female Umpires who attended the event, giving a special highlight to the event. In Saturday night there was, in the same Sasso hotel facilities a dinner reception was offered to Grand Masters, Masters, Umpires and family members. The QIUC ended, on Sunday at 2 PM. The UC thanks to ITF President, GM Paul Weiler, and to FETRA ITF for their support, making possible a new QIUC in Argentina.
