ITF Taekwon-Do, in its sporting aspect, has various official championships, among which the World Championships and World Cups stand out.
The World Championships take place every two years, in odd-numbered years, and only those who are ITF black belts and who, in turn, are national champions or are selected by their own countries compete in them.
The World Cups, on the other hand, are an open competition for all ITF-affiliated schools held every two years in even-numbered years. In addition to the black belt categories, blue and red belts can also participate in them.
In both types of ITF Championships, competition is held in five different disciplines: Sparring, Pattern, Special Techniques, Power Breaking and Pre-arranged Sparring. In addition, except in the last modality, competition is held individually or in teams.
Between October 28 and November 2, the 9th ITF World Cup 2024 will take place in Mar del Plata, Argentina. 143 associations, schools, and clubs from 42 countries will provide 471 coaches, 109 umpires, and almost 200 officials, a record since the 1st ITF World Championship held in Montreal in 1974. But most importantly, there were 1723 registered competitors with 3857 entries in 214 categories who prepared in the last years and months to compete at the sporting event with the most participants in the history of ITF Taekwon-Do.
