Today, November 9, 2025, the International Taekwon-Do Federation proudly commemorates the birthday of General Choi Hong Hi (1918–2002), the father of Taekwon-Do and a pioneer in the development of modern martial arts.
General Choi’s lifelong commitment to physical excellence, moral strength, and the unifying power of Taekwon-Do laid the foundation for the art practiced around the world today. Through his leadership and tireless effort, Taekwon-Do evolved from a vision into a global movement — one rooted in the Tenets of Taekwon-Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.
As we honor his legacy, we recognize that every student who ties their belt and steps onto the dojang floor continues the mission he started:
to build a better and more peaceful world through Taekwon-Do.
We extend our respect and gratitude to General Choi Hong Hi — for his innovative spirit, his resilience, and his enduring impact on countless practitioners across generations.
Taekwon!
