This April ITF Taekwon-Do practitioners around the world celebrated the 70th Anniversary of Taekwon-Do. In Australia the Allied National Taekwon-Do Association Australia Inc. (ANTAA) marked the occasion with a National Pattern Marathon to highlight our place in society as good citizens, reminding ourselves to be grateful for what we have and make an effort to contribute to something or someone other than ourselves.

The event was supported by Platinum Taekwon-Do led by Master Adeline Cheong, in Perth, Western Australia, Master Michael Nguyen’s club, Impact Taekwon-Do in Melbourne, Victoria and Doug’s Dojang headed up by Sabumnim Douglas Swain, in Rockhampton, Queensland. As a team we raised a total of $888 AUD from student and instructor contributions and made a donation to three charities; Lifeline Australia (for mental health), Variety – The Children’s Charity (supporting children and families who are facing many challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with a disability) and the Perth Homeless Support Group Inc.
Platinum Taekwon-Do members also paused to think about and write down what they had done for someone else this year.
Our pattern marathon was conducted seven times over April with 116 participants (50 black belts and 66 coloured belts) and a total of 3,158 patterns performed. Together we strive to build a better and more peaceful world.
