The ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships 2025 officially began in Poreč, Croatia, with a memorable Opening Ceremony that combined formality, emotion, and celebration — setting the perfect tone for four days of world-class competition.
Held in the impressive Sports Hall Žatika, the ceremony welcomed athletes, officials, and guests from 57 countries. The audience was treated to inspiring speeches from key leaders, including the Mayor of Poreč, the President of the Region of Istria, Master Slavko Jereb (Chair of the Organizing Committee), Master Anto Nobila (President of the Croatian Taekwon-Do Federation), and GM Paul Weiler (ITF President). Each highlighted the significance of the event and the unifying power of Taekwon-Do across cultures.






Moments of Emotion and Pride
One of the most moving scenes of the evening came as all 57 national teams with almost 1,500 competitors entered the arena to enthusiastic applause — a vivid display of international friendship and unity.
The ceremonial oaths were another emotional highlight:
- Athletes’ Oath – Ema Slavica (Croatia)
- Coaches’ Oath – Master Brandi Merritt (Canada)
- Umpires’ Oath – Jayasilen Sivapragasam (Malaysia)
Their words reaffirmed the integrity, fairness, and moral foundation that define Taekwon-Do.




Hall of Fame Inductions
A special highlight of the evening was the ITF Hall of Fame Ceremony, honoring seven distinguished figures whose lifelong dedication has advanced Taekwon-Do worldwide:
- Bsbn Lyndsey Conway (Ireland) – Outstanding Competitor
- Sbn Ryan O’Neil (Canada) – Outstanding Competitor
- Master Vegard Iversen (Norway) – Outstanding Coach
- GM Alexander Dunbar (Scotland) – Outstanding Umpire
- GM Gerard Martin (Ireland) – Outstanding Master
- Romania, represented by Sbn Cosmin Oprescu – Outstanding Country
- GM Paul Weiler (Germany) – Official, recognized for his commitment to developing Taekwon-Do in Ethiopia and Africa
While each induction was accompanied with the presentation of the trophy and the certificate it was met with heartfelt applause, symbolizing appreciation for excellence, leadership, and service to the art.
